I’ve Died and Gone to Kazakhstan

Please forgive as I am behind on my blogging. I promise to catch you up but want to write about what is happening now. I arrived in Almaty with a bad case of bronchitis. When I entered my hotel, I cried. Here was luxury I had not experienced in what felt like a life time. It was warm enough here for me not to wear a coat. I also was given two days to basically sleep and recover. I celebrated Easter at the home of the Ambassador and his wife’s home for which I will be forever grateful. The opening was tonight. Kazakhstan quilts both old and new were hung next to the quilts of Gee’s Bend. It was amazing and a dream come true. Once again quilts have brought together people who might not ever know each other. Tomorrow I lecture and teach. I am so excited that I am not sure I will sleep. More tomorrow! I feel Kazakhstan is going to be a wonderful adventure full of discovery. Very happy! Karen

  1. Karen dear – Kazakhstan sounds wonderful, I hope you can actually start getting well. It’s still coat weather here in Kentucky, rainy and chilly, not at all like the Easters we remember fondly from our childhoods. Can’t wait to hear more about the opening and the responses of your audiences and students. We miss you terribly!

  2. I’m glad to hear you’ll have some time to recover. You’ll be happy to know that it’s pushing 60 degrees here today, by the time you come back you may even be able to start gardening!
