Member Ami Simms has a new worthwhile project, The Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative is a project to raise awareness and money for research. It has two major components. The first is an exhibit of art quilts which interpret Alzheimer’s in quilt form. “Alzheimer’s: Forgetting Piece by Piece” will tour the United States for three years. she is seeking submissions. The prospectus with all the details is online at http://www.amisimms.com/prospectus.html.
The second component is called Priority: Alzheimer’s. It is an auction/sale of very small quilts (any theme, any technique) that measure no larger then 9″ by 12″. These quilts must be small enough to fit into a cardboard priority mailing envelope without folding, hence the name, and the urgency to find a cure. There are quilts you can bid on right now in a Slow Silent Auction. For details see http://www.amisimms.com/pral.html.
All proceeds, not just a portion of the proceeds, will be donated to Alzheimer’s research. It’s a nasty disease and one that I wish I did not know so well. My mother-in-law has it. I started my quilt on New Year’s Day. Join me in supporting this great project. Karen

Karen,
Your quilt is a moving tribute to your mother-in-law and to all those who walk in the shadow of Alzheimer’s. I am honored that it is in the exhibit. Thank you for your continued support of the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative and its two sister projects, the traveling exhibit, and the sale quilts.
If any of your readers wish to help me get these quilts on Oprah where they can gain much deserved national television attention, please have them email me at amisimms@aol.com.
Many thanks,
Ami Simms
