Q.S.O.S. at AQATS

On Saturday, April 8, at Art Quilts at the Sedgwick a team of Quilters’ S.O.S. – Save Our Stories volunteers conducted interviews. Bernie Herman stated that a great success due to the efforts of Melva Hightower to make it happen and the University of Delaware Q.S.O.S. team. The team represented a wonderful reunion too. Heather Gibson and Amy Henderson (both veterans of the earliest Houston projects) were there as were Megan Dwyre and Elaine Johnson (both interviewers at the first AQATS interviews) and they were joined by first timers Janneken Smucker and Sarah Ruhland.

Melva had arranged six interviews and they added three more over the afternoon: Lisa Call, Jette Clover, Julia E. Pfaff, Eileen Lauterborn, Daphne Taylor, Kathyanne White, Carol Krueger, Valerie Goodwin, and Melva. Eveyone enjoyed wonderful conversations and saw truly provocative quilts. The interviews took place in the exhibition held at the Philadelphia Arts Alliance. In addition to the usual challenges of interviewing on the floor, they worked around a PBS film crew developing a documentary for national airing sometime next year.

Look for these interviews to be online soon! Karen Musgrave
