Maude Haeger’s Inspiration

One of the things that I have loved about curating The Alliance’s “Put a Roof Over Our Head” contest and traveling exhibit has been getting to know the artists of these incredible quilts. Maude Haeger’s “Casa de Sol” was a huge hit at NQA and I wanted her to know. She sent me the quilt that was her inspiration. Here are her words-”This quilt, which is entitled Solarus I, was created after I had created another quilt which no longer exists. Although I love making abstract type quilts, I also love the control one has to have in order to make all those points. I love using color. I have been told I have a good sense of color, and I just have accepted that compliment and used my sense of color to create artistic slightly more traditional quilts. The fabric used for the yellow center became luminous when put in the quilt. The material I was able to use for the outside – the reddish part, is also luminous, making a great combination of light.” Enjoy! Karen
